This smoke fired lidded jar or urn has a textured glossy black band of glaze around the top of the pot. It is a squat globe shape, with smokey gray and black swirls, produced while being fired in a pit for 2 days. The sheen is the result of applying terra sigillata, a surface treatment developed around 1000 BC.
This pot is 5 " diameter, and holds 4 1/2 cups. As an urn it holds half the volume of a standard adult cremation container. It can also accommodate a 65 lb. dog. Though it is well made and sturdy, it is not waterproof and should be kept indoors out of direct sunlight.
