This 8" wide dramatic pit fired pot has swirls of burgandy, black, tan and gray, aquired from smoldering in a pit for 2 days. The sheen is the result of applying terra sigillata, a surface treatment developed around 1000 BC.
It can be sealed to hold funeral ashes, or can be displayed as a one of a kind piece of art pottery. It holds 6 cups, about 2/3 the volume of a standard cremation conainer. Though it is well made and sturdy, it is not waterproof and should be kept indoors out of direct sunlight.
