This pit fired lidded jar or urn is a swirl of burgandy, grey and black, making it looked like carved marble. A band of deeply embossed leaves travelling around the top of the pot. The colors developed during a 2 day pit firing. The sheen is the result of applying terra sigillata, a surface treatment developed around 1000 BC.
This pot is 5 " diameter, and holds 4 1/2 cups. As an urn it holds half the volume of a standard adult cremation container. It can also accommodate a 65 lb. dog. Though it is well made and sturdy, it is not waterproof and should be kept indoors out of direct sunlight.
